Abstract

The state Department of Environmental Protection is requiring all Maine municipalities to write their own shoreland zoning ordinances to protect high-quality marshes, and will draft ordinances for towns that don't write their own. Residents of Georgetown in June rejected a compromise with the state, and are set to consider another plan. Some residents think the state is depriving landowners of their rights when they disallow development because of wetlands regulations. Details.
