Abstract

When it comes to purchasing new fire trucks, the open bidding process is being ignored in large city fire departments and at rural ones run by volunteers. A look at truck purchases in some Maine communities revealed close ties between truck dealers and fire officials, and the higher purchase prices are being paid by the taxpayers. Details, related articles, list of large-city firetruck purchases since 1983.
