Abstract

Farmers' markets in the state have been operating under a new Department of Agriculture rule which mandates that at least 75 percent of the produce being sold must be grown or processed by the individual selling it. The new rules, proposed by the Maine Federation of Farmers' Markets, where seen as necessary due to the amount of out-of-state produce being sold at local markets.
