Abstract

The U.S. Coast Guard says that 45 of the 206 emergency calls logged between October 1992 and September 1993 for the area covering midcoast Maine to the New Hampshire coast were hoax calls, and is worried that an increase in the hoax calls may lead mariners to stop responding to them. For the year ending September 1992, 35 of the 193 emergency calls in the area were hoax calls. Details.
