Abstract

Andrea Gilmore, a historic building materials expert with the Society for the Protection of New England Antiquities in Boston, said an initial inspection of the curved plaster ceiling inside the Maine State House dome indicates that it needs repair but is largely sound. Water seepage through the copper-covered dome roof caused some plaster to break free about a year ago, causing some concern among officials in charge of the structure. Details.
