Abstract

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a class action lawsuit charging 13 insurance companies with trying to drive up workers' compensation rates in Maine during the 1980s. A group of Maine companies filed the lawsuit, contending that the insurance companies violated federal antitrust laws by fixing prices and threatening to boycott the state unless the Legislature allowed higher workers' comp rates.
