Abstract

Salvagers working on the wreck of the Empire Knight cargo ship have recovered all 221 flasks of mercury thought to be aboard when the vessel went down 7 miles off the coast of York in 1944. Officials with the state and federal agencies involved in the operation are scheduled to meet today to discuss the results of tissue and sediment sampling to determine the extent, if any, of mercury contamination around the wreck.
