Abstract

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court on Friday ruled that the town of Gray is interfering with interstate commerce by requiring that all trash generated within its boundaries go to Regional Waste Systems (RWS). The decision, which favors Guy Hart and his Poland-based Tri-State Rubbish Inc., has implications for all Greater Portland communities which belong to RWS, and could impact other publicly owned incinerators such as Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp. in Auburn.
