Abstract

On Saturday a cargo barge loaded with three million eggs left Portland bound for Hong Kong. The shipment marks the beginning of plans to ship 3 million to 4.5 million eggs from Portland to the Far East each week. The eggs come from the DeCoster Egg Farm in Turner and shipments are arranged by David E. Hefler, an egg broker from Scarborough. Eggs are now the leading export from Portland on the container cargo route.
