Abstract

Cheryl Hudson, tour manager for Susse Chalet International, of Wilton, New Hampshire, has threatened to bring no more bus tours to Kittery after local police inspected the bags of a black New Jersey church group shopping at the Kittery malls on October 9. Hudson believes the searches were racially motivated; the Kittery police chief said the group fit the profile of shoplifters because they carried large empty bags. Susse Chalet International brings 25 to 30 tours to Maine each year.
