Abstract

A new Maine law which goes into effect January 1, 1994, bans the use of Social Security numbers on identification cards issued on or after that date. Some health insurance providers in the state are concerned about the new law, saying it will force them away from a numbering system that is becoming the industry standard nationwide. Details.
