Abstract

The Basin site in Phippsburg, an archaeological site on the shores of a saltwater inlet connected by a narrow strait to the New Meadows River, resulted in the uncovering of some 10,000 artifacts, many of them dating to 4,000 years before present. Most artifacts that old are now covered by the ocean, making the excavation of the Basin site all the more impressive. Details, related article.
