Abstract

The United States Supreme Court has refused to consider a case involving reductions in state employee pension benefits on the grounds that the Maine State Employees Association (MSEA) was too late in filing its appeal of a decision by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. At issue is whether the state can change pension benefits for state employees after they are on the payroll. MSEA officials hope to contest the decision, which was made by office of the court clerk in Washington.
