Abstract

Maine Medical Center is currently considering a physician-hospital organization, under which it would cooperate with physicians in the Greater Portland area to sell health-care services directly to local companies and their workers. Such arrangements are increasing around the country, and usually involve a health-maintenance organization or business contracting with hospitals and doctors for services. The arrangements offer quality and cost-effective health care, but disadvantages include limited choices in picking physicians and the potential for higher costs. Details.
