Abstract

Gov. McKernan on Tuesday said that New Brunswick is in violation of the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement because it is selectively enforcing the sales tax on purchases made outside of the province. The tax is supposed to be levied on all purchases made outside of New Brunswick, including those made in neighboring Canadian provinces, but McKernan alleges that New Brunswick is not collecting the taxes as aggresively along its borders with other provinces as it is along its border with Maine.
