Abstract

On March 2, 1994, Turner dairy farmers Steve Briggs and Jon Nutting testified before the Maine legislature on opposing sides of the recombinant bovine somatropin debate. Citing consumer fears, many Maine processors will not accept milk from rBST-treated cows. Increased production might also cause long-term damage to the cows, just as over-grazing damages land.
