Abstract
Rollin Thurlow's Northwoods Canoe Company in Atkinson makes and restores about 30 wood and canvas canoes a year, using basically the same method as was employed in the 1870s. It takes about 80 hours to make one, compared to 90 minutes required to make a Royalex canoe at the Old Town Canoe Company, the world's largest canoe manufacturer.
