Abstract
An article on Marcy's Breakfast and Lunch, a rickety wood-paneled room on the corner of Oak and Free streets in Portland. Co-owner Marcy Litman sold the restaurant to employees Kevin and Heather Smith a few months ago, wanting to maintain continuity. In the past 50 years, the diner has also been Your Host, Lou's, and Mike's. Kevin chops 350 pounds of potatoes a week. Kevin, Heather, Marcy, and waitresses Michaelene "Mikey" and Joely describe what it is that keeps them working at Marcy's--atmosphere, absurdity, and each day being something to write a novel about. Marcy, and now Kevin and Heather, like to hire staff from the regulars who frequent the diner.
