Abstract

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is expected to recommend this week that salmon on the Denys, East Machias, Machias, Narraguagus and Pleasant rivers be listed as endangered. Salmon on the Sheepscot and Ducktrap rivers are expected to be listed as threatened. If the runs are listed as endangered, fishing would be banned immediately. Fish farming could be limited near the mouths of rivers on the listings, although requiring strengthened pens and the erection of barricades is another option. Details.
