Abstract

Tim Niederman, president of U.S. Flax and Linen of Presque Isle, says he has imported a flax milling machine from Belgium, and that a Hong Kong buyer has agreed to purchase this year's production of the fiber. Niederman has contracted with Aroostook County growers to plant around 500 acres, and plans to plant as much as 15,000 to 20,000 acres in the future. Miguel Schiavoni, head of Flax America, has roughly 700 tons of flax from previous harvests in storage.
