Abstract

State biologists say a lungworm, Dictacaulus vivparus, is sickening and killing moose in the state. Sick moose have shown up in Strong, Greenville, Ashland and Mount Chase, and most of the dead ones have had a heavy tick burden. The lungworm is very common and normally present in moose, deer, cattle and other ungulates, but does not usually harm the animals.
