Abstract

A total of 70,263 of the state's loon license plates have been sold to date, putting Maine second among states with conservation programs. The loon plates rank sixth nationally in terms of dollars raised, and ten percent of Maine's registered automobiles now sport them. The loon plate costs $20 in addition to the $22 vehicle registration fee, and renewals cost $15 annually. The departments of Conservation and Inland Fisheries & Wildlife receive $14 from initial purchases, and $14 from renewals.
