Abstract
The Appalachian Trail traverses 9.5 miles of the Saddleback range in Maine's Rangeley Lakes region. A major priority of the Appalachian Trail Conference is the purchase of 2,800 acres along the 3.5 miles of AT owned by Don Breen, owner of Otis-Clapp of Massachusetts, a pharmaceutical company, and the Saddleback Ski Area. The purchase would complete protection of the 281-mile Maine segment of the AT, and could give Saddleback the cash needed for a major expansion. Details, related article on the 1995-96 ski season and the Sunday River and Sugarloaf ski areas.
