Abstract

An 18-member working group charged with studying the deregulation of the electric industry was asked by Gov. King to postpone a vote on a retail deregulation plan. The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) this week announced that it will conduct its own study of a transition to a competitive retail market for electricity. Central Maine Power President David Flanagan is opposed to the working group's plan, which recommends that only the distribution of electricity remain a regulated monopoly subject to PUC oversight. Maine Public Advocate Stephen Ward plans to press ahead with the plan despite objections. Details.
