Abstract

The Community School in Camden has graduated 264 students in its 21 years of existence, but what it lacks in numbers it more than makes up for in intensity. Diplomas are achieved within six months, regardless of how many high school years a student has missed. Students at the school often suffer a history of failure, not because of lack of ability or intelligence but because of a personality clash or they don't buy into authority. The school offers students respect, and requires that they hold down a job, cook dinner for 12, and perform housekeeping chores and social service. Details, related article on the school's two-year-old outreach program for teen parents.
