Abstract
Bowater company officials will not renew the Appalachian Mountain Club's lease on the Abol Bridge Campground, prompting some AMC members to claim the company's decision is retaliation for AMC intervention in Bowater's West Branch dam relicensing application. Dan Corcoran of Bowater said the decision to not renew the lease was due to local concerns that the company was granting an exclusive lease, and had nothing to do with the intervention. Ron Chase of AMC said Bowater employee Ray Goody told him that if he had his way he would have cancelled the lease as soon as he heard about the intervention. Janet Myers of AMC said Chase's concerns are not representative of the organization's concerns as a whole.
