Abstract
Profile of Mel Ames, 68, of Atkinson, a forester and woodlot owner. Ames, a member of the Scientific Management Board of Baxter State Park, has developed a forestry and wood harvesting program and taught it to the inmates of the Charleston Correctional Facility. Ames was instrumental in drafting the forestry plan for the town of Atkinson, one of the most restrictive in the state, and which served as a model for the language of the November referendum on clear-cutting and forestry practices. Details, related article on Ames' 600-acre woodlot. Ames says the referendum would have little effect on his business or his woodlot.
