Abstract
Traffic on the Maine Turnpike is projected to exceed 43 million vehicles this year, compared to 42 million in 1995, 41.5 million in 1994 and 29 million in 1986. Record numbers of vehicles were recorded on the turnpike on August 9 and again on August 16. Studies for relieving turnpike congestion continue, and an electronic collection system is being installed at existing toll plazas.
