Abstract

The Bangor Public Library is one of three Area Reference and Research Centers in the state, and circulates 2,000 books a day and hosts 500,000 patrons annually. The library is undergoing an $8.5 million addition-renovation project, with $2.5 million donated by Tabitha and Stephen King. Marden's offered its vacant Outer Hammond Street store as a temporary library during the project, which is expected to be completed in December 1997. The addition will increase floor area from 40,000 square feet to 66,000 square feet, and will give patrons access to the stacks. Details.
