Abstract
Profile of Brian Hamel, president of the Loring Commerce Centre, formed to promote the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone for new uses. Loring, with its own sewer, water, electric and heating systems; state-of-the-art buildings; 75 miles of roads; offers free rent for up to five years. The federal government next month will formally turn the base over to the Loring Redevelopment Authority, allowing the signing of long-term leases. Loring is the site of a federal Defense Financing and Accounting Center, employing 550 people; a Job Corps Center, employing 130, with 380 students; and the 4,000-acre Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge.
