Abstract

June Nerber, Jane French and Bruce Potter, Palermo School Board members associated with the political agenda of the religious right, last week submitted their resignations to the Palermo Board of Selectmen. For the past ten months the three board members and fellow board member Oscar Saban have been trying to bring the influences of the Christian Coalition and the Eagle Forum into the Palermo Consolidated School. Their actions resulted in the elimination of guidance counseling and sex education classes, and the failure to reapply for a federal grant to fund remedial reading programs. Millard Howard formed the Action Committee for Education to respond to the school board's actions.
