Abstract
Doug Watts last fall identified more than two dozens areas in Bond Brook in Augusta where hen salmon had deposited their egg mass. A hatch of 3,000 alevins will result in 100 smolts surviving to begin the journey downstream to the open sea, and of that 100, only three to five will return as adult salmon. Restore: The North Woods petitioned the federal government to list the Atlantic salmon as an endangered species, prompting Gov. King to threaten to sue the government if the listing is made. Watts and otherr are doing what they can to restore the salmon to its once vigorous presence in the Kennebec and its tributaries. Details.
