Abstract
state representative George Kerr, D-Old Orchard Beach, sponsored L.D. 1763, which would allow municipalities to tax hotel and motel reservations. Revenues from the local sales tax would be collected by the state, and could be used by the municipality on public projects costing up to $1 million. Kerr owns the Surf Six restaurant and lounge in Old Orchard Beach. He once owned racehorses, and for years tried to get an off-track betting license for his establishment. Kerr steered a bill into law that relaxed rules for establishing OTB parlors, and lobbied against a state tax on OTB revenues.
