Abstract

The Maine Legislature's Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry voted 7-6 against recommending L.D. 1092, which would make public information about forest management practices collected by the state. The measure was opposed by the Maine Forest Sevice and the forest products industry. Landowners currently must report timber harvesting to the Maine Forest Service annually, and all information is kept confidential. Most other forest proposals have been held over until next year to see if the Compact for Maine's Forests passes in a November referendum.
