Abstract

Officials at the Maine Office of Tourism claim that most tourists who visit the state are here to shop, but an informal survey of tourists in Freeport shows that shopping is not a priority for most. Because tourism officials don't know exactly why tourists visit Maine, it's difficult to have a formal marketing plan aimed at drawing tourists into the state. Details, related article.
