Abstract

Gov. King's Land Acquisition Priorities Advisory Committee last Thursday issued a draft report that proposes a $45 million bond in 1998 for land acquisitons. The draft suggests increasing conservation land, establishing reliable funding and taking the initiative in acquiring parcels, but doesn't mention specific priorities. Conservationists say the proposed $45 million would only address the short-term goal of protecting 100,000 acres, not a proposed doubling of conservation land by 2020. The draft says the major challenge will be funding. Details.
