Abstract

Feature article on coyotes in Maine. The Maine population of coyotes is estimated to be from 10,000 to 16,000 animals, or around 11 to 18 per township. Hunters and trappers currently harvest around 2,000 coyotes annually. Richard Mosher of Fairfield works year-round as a guide and has hunted coyotes for more than a decade. Warren Trundyhas been chasing coyotes with dogs since the 1970s. Dan Kleiner of the Maine Professional Guides Association says there are a number of guides in the state hunting coyotes.
