Abstract

Maine Senate Majority Leader Chellie Pingree, D-North Haven, this week planned to introduce legislation that would require companies applying for certain tax breaks to be specific about the types and numbers of jobs they plan to create. Pingree said the bill is a response to several developments in the relationship between government, business, taxpayers and social programs. The bill would create an Economic Development Incentive Commission that would evaluate the public's return on investment when companies receive tax breaks. Details.
