Abstract

Lobbyists registered with the state Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices received $3.85 million in 1997, up 80 percent from 1996. Term limits, making for more inexperienced lawmakers, complex issues, and lack of time for businesspeople to lobby for themselves were given as some of the reasons for the increase. Details on individual lobbyists; and a list of the top 40 lobbyists, as rated by pay, in the 1997 legislative session.
