Abstract

A proposal by Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt to remove or declassify gray wolves from the Endangered Species Act was clarified after the Maine group, Restore: the North Woods, issued a press release saying the move would threaten protection for wolves in Maine. A spokesman for the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Sevice said there would be no "blanket delisting" and that regions would be viewed individually. Detailed article on reported wolf sightings in Maine and differing opinions on whether wolves have actually returned to the state after a century's absence.
