Abstract

"Maine Perspectives" piece critical of Jonathan Carter's desire for yet another referendum to ban clear-cutting, an issue that is perhaps too complex to resolve through government regulation. Douglas Rooks suggests that serious thought should be given to protecting key portions the north woods through private purchase rather than through government regulation. Rooks notes, however, that at present those with the interest and the means to make such purchases are not visible on the horizon.
