Abstract
A detailed article examining the role of the state Advisory Commission on Radioactive Waste and Decommissioning. With the passage of LD 2119, changes the role of commission from one of advisory to a regulatory one. Donaldson Koons, a retired Colby College geology professor, stepped down from the 17-member commission last month because he objected to the change. The state has taken a "passive" role in the decommissioning of Maine Yankee, and state officials are still unsure if they or Maine Yankee are responsible for radiation testing of trash hauled to the local dumps from the plant.
