Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on the Penobscot tribe's annual "Katahdin 100," which is a spiritual run from Indian Island in Old Town to Katahdin Stream at the base of the tribe's sacred 5,267 foot-mountain. Tribal leaders have asked the Baxter Park Authority to waive campground fees for the event but action has been postponed pending an advisory committee review. The park's management plan put the carrying capacity of Katahdin Stream campground at about 48 campers and tribal leaders are expecting about 100 to attend the weekend event.
