Abstract

"Health Care" piece on a medical marijuana initiative organized by Americans for Medical Rights that will appear on Maine's November ballot. Gordon Smith, executive director of the Maine Medical Association, said his organization will likely remain neutral. And until marijuana receives federal approval, Brooke Tenney, the Maine Hospice Council's board president, says the council will also remain neutral on the issue. Don Christen of Starks, head of the Maine Vocals and organizer of the annual Hempstock event, is critical of the Mainers for Medical Rights effort but his petition effort failed and he doesn't rule out supporting their referendum question.
