Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on last week's dismissal of three named defendants in a 1998 lawsuit, being tried in Cumberland County Superior Court, over the gasoline additive MTBE and its pollution of Maine's groundwater. The court ruled that the three, George Smith, Patty Aho and Nancy Balter, are protected by Maine's anti-SLAPP statute, which protects activists. SLAPP is an acronym for "strategic lawsuit against public participation."
