Abstract
As Mark Latti, spokeman for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife understands it, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service recognizes that Maine's efforts to protect the Canada lynx are working. The lynx will be listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act as of April, but the service is expected to allow for the killing of lynx incidental to state or tribal hunting and trapping programs, the so-called 4d rule. The prediction is that the listing won't have much impact in Maine, except for a possible restriction that would keep loggers from cutting trees near active dens. With details on the lynx in Maine and elsewhere in the country.
