Abstract
"Cover Story" piece examining the reasons for the high cost of drugs, which has had a major impact on the lives of Maine people like Davide Mareletta, who is blind, diabetic, and a transplant patient, and the difficulties faced by those who are searching for ways to control drug prices. U.S. represenative Tom Allen believes that current drug pricing flies in the face of all that is known about pricing in a free market, but he doesn't believe that price controls are the answer, He looks to the creation of countervailing market powers to bring prices down.
