Abstract

Connors is a subsidiary of Toronto's George Weston Ltd., the largest food products company in Canada with sales of $21 billion in 1999. Because Connors will have a virtual monopoly on the Maine sardine industry, the Attorney General's office reviewed the Stinson sale and negotiated a consent decree with the company. With the terms of the consent decree, an analysis of the resource and the market, a look at the industry and production figures, and a related article on "Clupea harengus," more popularly known as Atlantic herring.
