Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on a Wal-Mart super-center that Belfast does not want, but its next-door neighbor, Searsport, does. Last week, the Belfast City Council gave first reading to a six-month moratorium on single commercial retail development over 25,000-square-feet and combined development over 50,000-square-feet. A final vote is scheduled this week. Meanwhile, Ralph Harvey, Searsport's first selectman, said if Wal-Mart can't go into Belfast, Searsport would be interested in talking with them. But Keith Morris, a Wal-Mart spokesman, said it's too soon to comment on whether the corporation would be interested in any location other than the Route 3 parcel in Belfast.
