Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on Maine's Public Utilities Commission (PUC), which is requiring electrical power providers to disclose the mix of sources and environmental impact of their power. Bangor Hydro and Central Maine Power already disclose such information to customers. But the PUC is still analyzing information from Maine Public Service (MPS) Company in Presque Isle. Ironically, deregulation has yet to spawn any real choice among providers, except in MPS's service territory in Aroostook County. As of July 1, customers representing 8 percent of the demand had switched providers. MPS serves 35,000 customers, Bangor Hydro serves 100,000 and CMP serves 550,000.
